Covid, Vitamin D, and Long Term Metabolic Health

There is so much you cannot control and there are so many unknowns. I do not think enough people are talking about simple inexpensive things that can be done to boost immune systems and reduce risk.

There is so much you cannot control and there are so many unknowns. I do not think enough people are talking about simple inexpensive things that can be done to boost immune systems and reduce risk. At Slim Rx, we advise patients to supplement with Vitamin D3 because it really helps with metabolic health. It helps you feel better and significantly reduces your odds of getting just about every major disease. There is now exciting research that suggests it really helps with Covid 19.

New research suggests getting your Vitamin D levels above 50ng/ml will cut your odds of testing positive for Covid-19 by over 50%.

A new study just published by one of the top Vitamin D researchers, Prof. Michael Holick at Boston University, confirms the critical importance of high circulating levels of Vitamin D in protecting from testing positive to Covid-19.

Using data from 191,779 Quest Diagnostics patients who took the Covid-19 RNA NAAT test between mid-March and mid-June, 2020, the researchers mapped positive tests against current or prior 25(OH)D tests on file for these patients.

Another smaller study shows the lower your Vitamin D3 levels the higher the fatality rate. You want your Vitamin D levels above 35ng/ml to drastically reduce your fatality risk.

In an Indonesian study of 780 confirmed positive Sars-Cov2 cases, death was inversely associated with Vitamin D levels. Imagine how popular a vaccine with a 95% success rate would be …

Researchers note the key findings from their study:

  • Majority of the COVID-19 cases with insufficient and deficient Vitamin D status died.
  • 95% of the COVID-19 cases with sufficient or greater Vitamin D status lived.
  • The odds of death was higher in older and male cases with pre-existing condition and below normal Vitamin D levels.
  • When controlling for age, sex, and comorbidity, Vitamin D status is strongly associated with COVID-19 mortality.

Supplementing Vitamin D3 is a good idea regardless of Covid 19. But now, during this pandemic, there is no reason you shouldn’t be taking it. Vitamin D’s link to Covid could also explain why minority communities have higher complication rates. The more melanin you have the more likely you are to be Vitamin D deficient.

Most of the time, when purchasing supplements, you want to pay a little more to get a high-quality effective product. Not with Vitamin D, just buy the least expensive version you can find. Here is a link to the Vitamin D we carry just for our out of sight out of mind patients: https://wellevate.me/patrick-lovegrove-1 Register here to get 10% off automatically. However, you can buy it for less at Walmart or Costco.

The general Vitamin D3 dosage for adults, about 5000 IU’s a day, will get your levels where they need to be. However, you do need to test your blood markers as everyone metabolizes it differently. If you have any concerns, contact us so we can get you scheduled for an appointment with Amy Mackie PA-C to discuss it further.  Children’s dosages are variable and you will need to ask your pediatrician.

Vitamin D3 supplementation is a part of Slim Rx’s long-term healthy metabolism strategy and now research shows it also helps prevent complications from Covid 19. If that is not reason enough, the cold and flu season upon us and Vitamin D will help boost your immune system and help protect you from both of those as well.

Is there anything Vitamin D3 cannot do? It cannot take itself. So you will have to take some action. Start this habit for you and your family.  It is inexpensive and easy to implement. It’s like wearing a seatbelt; it is a good habit to have.
